The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) has taken decisive action by terminating four of its employees following an investigation into alleged criminal activity at the Cabot Yard and Maintenance Facility in South Boston. MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng announced the firings, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to integrity and accountability.
The investigation, which has captured public attention, centers around the misuse of company resources. Reports from Boston 25 News highlighted allegations that some T employees were using MBTA facilities and resources to work on personal or non-agency vehicles during work hours.
Eng’s statement underscored the seriousness of the situation, “We are committed to upholding our core values of integrity, accountability, and transparency in every aspect of our operations at the MBTA. While a thorough investigation continues into alleged employee misconduct at Cabot Yard, the MBTA has taken decisive action based on our findings to date and terminated four employees found to be directly involved.”
The misconduct at the Cabot Yard, located at 275 Dorchester Avenue, has not only led to these firings but has also resulted in seven other employees being placed on administrative leave. Among those on leave, one was reportedly “observed but not directly engaged in the activity,” according to sources close to the investigation.
The MBTA, which serves as the primary public transportation provider for the Greater Boston area, has assured the public that this incident will not impact the ongoing improvements and operations across its system. Eng further stated, “This alleged misconduct does not reflect the values of the MBTA community, and it has not and will not impact the progress we are delivering across the system. We are taking these allegations very seriously, as we have an obligation to the public we serve and to our workforce to ensure that every employee meets the highest standards of conduct.”
The transit authority has promised full cooperation with law enforcement and continues its internal investigation to root out any further misconduct. The community awaits further details as the investigation unfolds, hoping for swift resolution and restoration of trust in the MBTA’s operations.
