Madonna led nominations with 13, her first time atop the field in 28 years, and left with three awards, including Best Dance for “Confessions II — The Film” and Best Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter on “Bring Your Love.” Swift entered tied with Beyoncé at 30 wins and pulled ahead after the inaugural Artist Director Honors, Video of the Year, and additional direction recognition that lifted her to 33, according to U.S. awards tallies.

Madonna opened with Carpenter on “Bring Your Love” from her 2026 album Confessions II, with Charli XCX joining for “Danceteria Afterhours.” Accepting Artist of the Year, Madonna reminded the room she performed at the first MTV awards 43 years ago. Host Snoop Dogg praised the opener, calling her an icon as the show mixed new pop with tributes to Nirvana, George Michael and Dolly Parton.
