Legato AI Hearing Glasses Launch in the US at $999

Boston-based hearing startup Legato said its flagship Legato AI hearing glasses are now on sale in the United States, pairing prescription eyewear with on-device speech enhancement for adults with up to moderate hearing loss. TechCrunch reported Oct. 1, 2026 that Legato Frames start at $999 and are available online and through select U.S. eye-care providers, where vision insurance may apply.

How Legato Frames differ from traditional hearing aids

Legato embeds patented hearing hardware in the arms of the frames and uses SpeechSense AI to separate voices from background noise in real time. Unlike many directional-mic hearing aids, the company says all processing happens on the glasses with no cameras or recording. An open-ear dual-speaker design directs sound toward the wearer while cutting escaped sound by 99% a few inches away, according to the company. Frames weigh as little as 34 grams with lenses, offer 10–12 hours of battery life, support Bluetooth streaming, and come in three styles including the Aria browline design.

Boston launch, funding, and clinical positioning

A GlobeNewswire release dated Oct. 1 said Legato Frames are FDA-regulated over-the-counter hearing aids for mild-to-moderate loss and include lifetime support from U.S.-based audiologists. Legato emerged from stealth in August 2026 with $12 million from Neotribe Ventures, Listen, and Village Global. Co-founders Mehul Trivedi and Steve Romine previously worked on Bose Frames and Bose hearing products; Trivedi later led smart-eyewear efforts at EssilorLuxottica. HearAdvisor gave the Frames a SoundScore of 4.6 out of 5 in May 2026 testing, ranking them among its top 10 devices, the company said.

Wearables race and health stakes

Legato is pitching style and comfort as answers to cost and stigma that leave many adults untreated. The company’s release cited Lancet Commission–linked research associating hearing-device use with lower cognitive-decline risk. The launch adds another AI wearable to a crowded market that also includes smart glasses and gadgets we’ve covered, such as the Meta Muse Charm AI gadget and Apple’s smart home hub redesign.
