Taiwan Cafe Boston: Chinatown Dumplings, Menu and Hours

Home › Boston Restaurants

Taiwan Cafe at 34 Oxford St. is one of the best-known restaurants in Boston’s Chinatown, and Eater Boston singles out its Taiwan-style pan-fried dumplings in its guide to the neighborhood. The restaurant sits near the Theatre District, and its hours run late into the night, which helps explain why it keeps turning up on Chinatown dining lists.

Taiwan Cafe in Chinatown: What Published Sources Say

The restaurant’s older website describes Taiwan Cafe as a Chinese restaurant in the Theatre District part of Chinatown, at 34 Oxford St. at Oxford Place, with takeout orders by phone at (617) 426-8181. Its newer online ordering site lists the same address and hours, though with a different phone number, (347) 941-1175, so call the number on the page you are using.

Eater Boston’s guide to the best places to eat in Chinatown, updated Sept. 22, 2026, includes Taiwan Cafe and says the Taiwan-style pan-fried dumplings are “the truth,” while urging readers not to skip the rest of the menu. Travel + Leisure also included the restaurant among eight Chinatown stops in its neighborhood guide, though that article is behind a paywall and we could only read an excerpt.

Menu Highlights: Dumplings, Wontons and Beyond

Eater names these dishes as worth a look beyond the dumplings: sauteed pickled mustard greens with pork intestines, sauteed kabocha squash with salty egg, and Sichuan-style white fish in a pot of bubbling chile oil. That mix of Taiwanese and Sichuan-leaning dishes is part of what the restaurant is known for.

The restaurant’s ordering page lists a long, numbered menu. In the dumpling section, it includes:

  • Taiwan-style pan-fried dumplings, eight to an order (item 40).
  • Pork dumplings with chive, steamed or pan-fried.
  • Szechuan wontons with chili peanut sauce.
  • Pan-fried buns with duck and onion, and mini steamed buns with pork.
  • Fried mashed taro with duck egg yolk and sweet sticky rice with dried fruits among the sweeter items.

A menu aggregator that mirrors the restaurant’s list shows the pan-fried dumplings at $15.95 for eight. That price comes from a secondary listing, so treat it as a guide and check the restaurant’s own page. The same listing also shows frozen dumplings sold in bags of 50.

Reading the Dumpling Menu

The dumpling section of the menu is broad. Besides the Taiwan-style pan-fried version, the ordering page lists pork dumplings with napa cabbage, chicken dumplings with celery, shrimp dumplings and vegetarian steamed ravioli, several of them offered steamed or pan-fried. That makes it easy for a group to split a few styles. If you want something other than dumplings, Eater’s picks, such as the Sichuan-style white fish in chile oil, point to the kitchen’s spicier side, and the menu also includes sweet items like fried taro with duck egg yolk to close the meal.

Hours, Address and Practical Tips

  • Address: 34 Oxford St., Boston, MA 02111 (Chinatown).
  • Hours: The online ordering site lists Monday through Thursday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Confirm before heading out, because late-night hours are the first thing restaurants change.
  • Ordering: The restaurant offers online ordering for pickup, according to its ordering site.
  • Cuisine label: Eater and the restaurant’s own site call it Chinese; Yelp files it under Taiwanese. Its menu spans both.
