Supreme Court News

Supreme Court news from The Boston Report: arguments, opinions, emergency orders and nominations, collected when our published headlines name the Supreme Court or SCOTUS.

How we cover the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of the United States is the head of the federal judiciary. It hears a limited number of cases each term, issues opinions that interpret federal law and the Constitution, and sometimes acts on an emergency basis. This page is a news landing for those developments. It is not a live docket tracker, not a complete calendar of arguments, and not a substitute for the Court’s own slip opinions and orders.

When a story is about legislation, confirmations in the Senate or the balance of power in Congress, use the Congress Tracker. When it is about presidential actions or executive orders that later reach the courts, use the Trump Presidency Tracker alongside this page. Broader U.S. government coverage remains on the U.S. Politics hub.

Court reporting depends on the public record: opinions, oral-argument transcripts, filings and on-the-record statements. We separate what a justice wrote from what advocates or politicians say about a decision, and we note when a ruling is interim rather than a final decision on the merits. We do not preview votes we cannot document.

The feed below includes published stories whose title or URL matches “Supreme Court” or “SCOTUS.” It pages through every matching story rather than stopping at a fixed number. Cases that we cover without those words in the headline will appear in the main U.S. Politics archive instead.
