About this tracker
The tracker covers the 119th Congress, which runs from Jan. 3, 2025 to Jan. 3, 2027. It reports what Congress has recorded, as published by the House, the Senate, the Library of Congress and the Government Publishing Office. It does not rate, rank or characterize any member, bill or vote. For the executive branch, see our Presidency Tracker; for the races that will decide the next Congress, see our 2026 midterm elections report.
Methodology
- Party breakdown: voting House seats from the Office of the Clerk’s member data file (the six nonvoting delegates and resident commissioner are excluded) and Senate seats from Senate.gov member data. Vacant seats are shown separately.
- Bills introduced: the number of bills (H.R., S.) and joint resolutions (H.J.Res., S.J.Res.) introduced, from the Congress.gov API. Simple and concurrent resolutions, which cannot become law, are not counted.
- Passed House / passed Senate: the number of House bills and joint resolutions with a House-passed (engrossed) text, and Senate bills and joint resolutions with a Senate-passed text, as published on GovInfo. A Senate bill passed by the House, or a House bill passed by the Senate, is not counted again in these totals. Published texts can lag a vote by a few days.
- Laws: public and private laws of the 119th Congress from the Congress.gov API, dated by the day the measure became law.
- Roll-call votes: the latest recorded votes from the House Clerk’s vote XML files and the Senate’s vote lists. Voice votes are not recorded by name and do not appear.
- Refresh: data refreshes once a day. If a source is unavailable, the previous data stays in place and each card shows the date it was last confirmed.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are left until the 2026 midterm elections?
The counter at the top of this page shows the number of days until Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. It updates automatically each day in Eastern Time.
Which party controls the House and the Senate?
Republicans hold majorities in both chambers of the 119th Congress. The party breakdown on this page shows current seat counts and vacancies from the House Clerk and the U.S. Senate, checked every morning.
How many bills has the 119th Congress passed?
The key numbers show how many House bills and joint resolutions have passed the House, how many Senate bills and joint resolutions have passed the Senate, and how many measures have become law. Passage counts come from the engrossed (passed) bill texts published on GovInfo; laws come from Congress.gov.
Why are so few introduced bills enacted?
Most bills never get a committee vote or a floor vote. A bill must pass both the House and the Senate in identical form and be signed by the president, or have a veto overridden, to become law.
When does the 119th Congress end?
Under the 20th Amendment, the terms of the 119th Congress end at noon on Jan. 3, 2027. Members elected on Nov. 3, 2026 form the 120th Congress, which convenes that day.
Who represents Massachusetts in Congress?
Massachusetts has two senators and nine House members. The delegation table lists each member, their party and district, with links to their official websites and Congress.gov pages.
How often is the Congress tracker updated?
The countdowns update every time the page loads. Seat counts, bill counts, laws and roll-call votes refresh automatically every morning from official sources.
