Heavy rain flooded roads, businesses and even the police station in Falmouth on Friday, Nov. 6, as storms dropped nearly 4 inches of rain on parts of Cape Cod, according to Boston 25 News, the Cape Cod Times and the Boston Globe. A Flood Watch remained in effect for Southeast Massachusetts and Martha’s Vineyard through 10 a.m. Saturday, Barnstable County said.

What we know
Falmouth police reported multiple flooded roads around town Friday, including Main Street in front of Bank of America near Falmouth Lumber, Falmouth Heights Road, Grand Avenue and Menauhant Road, the Cape Cod Times reported, citing a police social media post. Police told drivers not to try to drive through flooded areas and to find another route.
Water also got inside the Falmouth Police Department as officers responded to reports of flooded streets, and police called in all available night-shift officers to handle weather-related calls, Boston 25 News reported.
At Garrett’s gas station on Route 28, floodwater rose to about knee level and trash barrels floated around the pumps, Boston 25 reported. An employee told Boston 25 the store closed for a few hours and that nothing was damaged. Fallen leaves clogging storm drains added to the flooding, Boston 25 reported.
Across the Cape
In Bourne, some roads were closed until Saturday, and Winslow Street in Provincetown was washed out, according to Boston 25 News.
Accounts of how serious the flooding was at midday differ. In an update published Friday, Barnstable County said there had been a few minor flooding reports on Cape Cod and no significant flooding in the region as of 1 p.m. The Cape Cod Times story listing flooded Falmouth roads was updated at 12:25 p.m., and Boston 25 News described widespread flooding across Falmouth and other parts of the Cape in its Friday night report.
How much rain fell
The Boston Globe listed these rainfall totals as of Friday evening:
- Woods Hole: 3.97 inches
- East Falmouth: 3.37 inches
- Norton and West Bridgewater: 2.50 inches each
- Chatham: 2.28 inches
- Boston: 1.30 inches
The rain followed the longest dry stretch of 2026, the Globe reported. The National Weather Service canceled earlier flood warnings for the South Coast of Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Newport area, according to the Globe.
What happens next
Barnstable County said another 1 to 3 inches of rain was possible, with 2 to 4 inches in spots where heavy rain lingers. The main concern is flooding in urban and poor-drainage areas, especially where leaves block storm drains. The county put the risk of river flooding as low unless rainfall tops 4 inches.
The county’s safety advice: never drive through flooded roads, avoid walking through floodwater, use caution in low-lying areas and keep storm drains clear only when it is safe to do so. The Globe said scattered showers could linger Saturday morning. For more local coverage, see Boston and Massachusetts news.
