Black Bamboo Boston, a sushi bar, Asian fusion kitchen and lounge, has opened at 57 Canal St. in the West End, a short walk from TD Garden. The restaurant soft-opened in mid-October in the former Bodega Canal space, Boston Restaurant Talk reported on Oct. 15, and local food outlets are now listing it among November’s new places to try.
The owners describe it on the restaurant’s website as an “eat-tertainment venue,” with a sushi dining room and a separate lounge bar. The lounge is posted to stay open until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, which is late for this part of the city.
What Black Bamboo serves
Boston.com described Black Bamboo as family-owned and said it soft-opened at the end of October. Its sushi menu covers classic and specialty maki rolls, nigiri, sashimi and handrolls, including scallop and toro and foie gras and unagi. Appetizers lean on seafood, such as wild king salmon with truffles and gold flakes, tuna on crispy rice and rock shrimp. The fusion side includes Korean fried chicken, squid ink pasta and truffle udon noodle soup.
Boston magazine highlighted wagyu-and-uni handrolls topped with caviar and gold flakes, plus Korean fried chicken wings and a mango sticky rice cocktail. It also reported that the kitchen team comes from Oishii, the South End sushi restaurant that recently closed. Boston Restaurant Talk’s first report, based on the restaurant’s Instagram, mentioned wagyu fried rice, blooming enoki and creamy truffle udon, and said live music appeared to be part of the plans.
The Boston Report has not dined at Black Bamboo; menu details here come from the reports above and may change as the restaurant moves past its soft opening. Prices were not posted on the official site when we checked on Nov. 7, 2026.

A new option for game nights
Canal Street runs between Haymarket and North Station, the corridor where many fans eat and drink before events. Boston magazine pitched Black Bamboo as a place to eat before a game and celebrate after a win. If you are planning around a Celtics game or a Bruins game, the long lounge hours on weekends give it more room than many nearby kitchens. North Station and Haymarket are both close, with Green Line and Orange Line service.
What replaced what
The space was home to Bodega Canal, which opened in the fall of 2018 with tacos, bowls, small plates and tequila drinks and closed in late summer 2025, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. Black Bamboo keeps the address as a bar-and-restaurant hybrid but swaps the Mexican menu for sushi and Asian fusion.
Before you go
New restaurants often adjust hours and menus during the first weeks, so check the website or the restaurant’s Instagram before heading over, especially on event nights. The lounge’s late weekend hours also mean the room may feel more like a bar after the dinner rush.
Black Bamboo is one of several Asian restaurants that opened in Boston this fall, alongside soup-dumpling spots in the Back Bay and Cambridge. For more ideas, see our guide to where to eat in Boston.
