The USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group pulled into Singapore for a port visit on Friday, Nov. 6, its last stop before heading to the Middle East, USNI News and The War Zone reported. The group is expected to join two U.S. carrier strike groups already operating in the region, according to The War Zone.

What we know
The strike group includes the carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) with Carrier Air Wing 11, the cruiser USS Chosin (CG-65) and the destroyers USS Paul Hamilton (DDG-60) and USS Decatur (DDG-73), USNI News reported.
The carrier, Chosin and Paul Hamilton docked at Changi Naval Base, while Decatur docked at Sembawang, according to USNI News. The War Zone said the carrier moored at RSS Singapura–Changi Naval Base just before midnight Eastern Time, followed by the other three warships over the next few hours.
Neither report cited a U.S. Navy statement on the visit. USNI News said it “understands” the group arrived, and noted ship spotters saw Decatur entering Singapore on Friday.
How it got there
The Roosevelt left San Diego in late September for what was expected to be a Middle East deployment, USNI News reported. It first went to the Western Pacific and took part in the Keen Sword 27 exercise, which it completed on Oct. 29, according to The War Zone.
The carrier switched on its automatic identification system about 100 nautical miles east of Malaysia on Nov. 5, its first public position broadcast since leaving Yokosuka, Japan, on Oct. 19, The War Zone reported, citing MarineTraffic data. On Nov. 4, the carrier refueled at sea from the Australian navy oiler HMAS Stalwart in the South China Sea, according to USNI News.
Three carriers in the Middle East
The Roosevelt is expected to relieve the USS George Washington strike group, which has been in the Middle East since Aug. 19, USNI News reported. USNI News said it is unclear whether the U.S. will keep three carriers in the region for long.
The War Zone said the USS George H.W. Bush and USS George Washington strike groups are both operating there. It said the George Washington left Yokosuka 167 days ago and the Bush has been deployed for 220 days.
What happens next
After the port visit, the group is expected to transit the Strait of Malacca and head west across the Indian Ocean, USNI News and The War Zone reported. A U.S. official told Axios the group “won’t reach CENTCOM’s area of responsibility before mid-November,” according to The War Zone.
The War Zone estimated the trip would take one to two weeks, noting the George Washington made the run from the strait to the Arabian Sea in just over a week in August. More coverage is on the War News hub and the Iran War Tracker.
