Eastern Standard Boston, the brasserie that helped remake Kenmore Square after opening in 2005, is back in business a short walk from its old home. It now runs at 775 Beacon Street in the Fenway, inside the Bower apartment complex, serving lunch, weekend brunch and dinner with a raw bar, steak frites, a rotating plat du jour and a long cocktail list. Here is what to know about the menu, prices, hours and parking before you book.
From Kenmore Square to the Fenway: Eastern Standard’s comeback
Restaurateur Garrett Harker opened Eastern Standard Kitchen and Drinks inside the Hotel Commonwealth in 2005. Before that he had partnered with chef Barbara Lynch on No. 9 Park, B&G Oysters and The Butcher Shop, according to The Boston Globe. The brasserie’s marble bar became a regular stop for Boston University students, Red Sox crowds and hotel guests. It also trained a generation of local talent: Boston.com notes that opening chef Jamie Bissonnette went on to open Toro, Coppa and Little Donkey. The Boston Report has reviewed both Coppa in the South End and Toro.
The original restaurant shut its doors on March 16, 2020, at the start of the pandemic, and never reopened there. In February 2021, Eastern Standard, Island Creek Oyster Bar and The Hawthorne, all in the same hotel, were confirmed closed for good. A spokesperson told BU Today that the closures came because the owners and the landlord, UrbanMeritage, “couldn’t come to terms on a new lease,” and were not caused by the pandemic itself.
In January 2022, the Globe reported that Harker had signed a deal to open four restaurants in the Bower, part of the Fenway Center development on Beacon Street. Eastern Standard reopened there in October 2023. The restaurant’s official website describes it as having moved “around the corner” from the original. Its sister cocktail bar, Equal Measure, shares the complex. The Globe has also credited Harker as a force behind Row 34 in Fort Point, a good second stop for fans of the Eastern Standard raw bar.
Eastern Standard menu highlights and prices
The restaurant calls its food “seasonally-focused New England interpretations of classic brasserie fare.” In practice, the dinner menu mixes French bistro staples, red-sauce comfort dishes and New England seafood. The prices below are the ones listed on the restaurant’s dinner menu in October 2026 and can change.
- Raw bar: oysters at $4 each, littleneck clams at $3 and shrimp cocktail at $4, both priced by the piece, a Maine lobster cocktail for $25 and a seafood tower for $140. Oysters drop to $2 each during weekday lunch, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Steak frites: the grilled bavette version with herb and shallot butter, watercress, fries and aioli is $34. A 20-ounce bone-in ribeye frites is $72.
- Burgers and sandwiches: the Standard Burger with Vermont cheddar is $23, the Deluxe Burger with Savenor’s bacon, brie and mushrooms is $25, and a Maine lobster roll on a split-top bun is $38.
- Starters: roasted bone marrow with chili crisp ($18), salt cod fritters ($17), steak tartare ($22) and Maine mussels with chorizo ($22).
- Pastas and mains: housemade mafaldine with pork sugo ($32), baked rigatoni with lamb and pork sausage ($30), seared salmon ($38) and a heritage pork chop Milanese ($38).
The plats du jour are a big part of the draw. The current list runs from Bolognese on Monday and duck breast on Tuesday to mushroom-crusted halibut on Wednesday, veal schnitzel on Thursday, lobster gnocchi on Friday, braised short rib on Saturday and a veal and pork bratwurst on Sunday. Lunch is a little cheaper, with steak frites at $24, fish and chips in a house pilsner batter at $22 and a grilled cheese at $16.
Atmosphere, bar and who it suits
Eastern Standard still sells itself as “an approachable any-occasion restaurant.” The bar stays open all day, and the website points to a “nationally-recognized beverage program” of craft cocktails, wine and beer. When the restaurant reopened, Time Out Boston reported that it had teamed up with Narragansett Beer on a Bohemian-style pilsner sold only at the restaurant. A patio and private event spaces make it a common choice for group dinners, birthdays and pre-game meals.
It suits a wide range of diners. A pair of oysters and a cocktail at the bar works as well as a long steak dinner, and the menu notes that many dishes can be changed for allergies and dietary needs. The baked rigatoni can also be made vegetarian.
Hours, location and parking
According to the restaurant’s hours and location page, Eastern Standard is open:
- Monday to Thursday: 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. (bar until 11 p.m.)
- Friday: 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. (bar until midnight)
- Saturday: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. (bar until midnight)
- Sunday: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (bar until 9 p.m.)
Lunch runs Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A smaller midday menu covers 3 to 4 p.m. every day. The address is 775 Beacon St., Boston, MA 02215. The main entrance is in the center of the plaza between the two Bower buildings. The restaurant suggests the corner of Beacon and Maitland streets for drop-offs.
There is no valet or validation. Parking is at meters or in private garages, and on non-game, non-event days the Bower garage offers a negotiated rate of $27 for the evening after 3 p.m. Game days are a different story. Check the Fenway Park schedule before you drive, because event pricing applies and street spots disappear fast. With baseball done for the year, game-day crowds will not be back until spring; our Red Sox offseason coverage tracks what comes next.
Tips before you go
Book ahead for Friday and Saturday dinner, especially on nights with events at the ballpark, which sits steps away. For a cheaper visit, go for weekday lunch, when $2 oysters and a $24 steak frites make it one of the better-value sit-down lunches in the Fenway. If you want to stick around after dinner, Equal Measure is in the same complex, and its entrance is the first door you pass when walking in from Beacon and Maitland.
