CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple CEO John Ternus is pressing AI chief Craig Federighi to speed up the Siri roadmap and deliver an AI agent that can compete with rival products, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported, according to a summary published by The Verge on Sunday, Nov. 8. The report is single-source and unconfirmed.

What is expected
Two improvements are expected in the coming months, according to the report. The first would give Siri fine-grained control over Apple’s own apps, such as rotating and cropping images in Photos or organizing Safari tabs. Those features are expected with iOS 27.3.
The larger change, integration with third-party apps, is likely to arrive later, in the spring, Gurman said. That would let Siri place an order through Grubhub or book a dinner reservation through OpenTable.
The competition
The Verge said Federighi delivered a functional version of Siri AI on a short timeline, but that Apple knows it is not keeping pace with rivals. The report compared Siri with OpenAI’s Dots, Meta’s Muse and Grok, which Gurman said can track goals and keep working on them without a user starting each step.
Gurman wrote that Apple wants to move in that direction and could make Siri more like an agent as early as next year.
What happens next
The iOS 27.3 release would be the first test of the reported plan. More coverage is on our Artificial Intelligence page.
