Soufflé Therapeutics Raises $135 Million Series B

$135 million | Soufflé Therapeutics and Juvia Group | Oct. 13, 2026. Soufflé Therapeutics, an RNA medicines company based at 250 Arsenal Street in Watertown, announced the close of an oversubscribed $135 million Series B. Juvia Group led the round. New investors included TCG Crossover Management, BB Biotech, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Balyasny Asset Management and an unnamed sovereign wealth fund. Existing backers, including Amgen Ventures, ARCH Venture Partners, Polaris Partners, Leaps by Bayer and Temasek, also took part.

Why it matters: Soufflé says the money will move its first three programs into clinical studies. The lead program targets facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), a muscle disease with no approved disease-modifying treatment. The second targets a form of heart failure, and the third is an undisclosed muscle and metabolic target. The company’s REMEDY platform is designed to deliver oligonucleotide drugs to specific tissues outside the liver, a long-standing technical hurdle in the field. The round is one of the larger private biotech financings in the region this fall, at a time when Kendall Square biotech layoffs and lab vacancies point to a market where capital is concentrated in fewer companies.

Rocket Software Buys Geniez AI

Terms not disclosed | Rocket Software and Geniez AI | Oct. 13, 2026. Waltham-based Rocket Software, which is owned by Bain Capital Private Equity, said it has acquired Geniez AI. Geniez builds generative AI agents that run on mainframe computers, where they monitor live systems, diagnose incidents and carry out tasks through natural-language instructions. Rocket did not disclose a price.

Why it matters: Rocket, which says it has more than 3,000 employees and 13,500 customers, said the Geniez team will join its AI work, including new features in its Rocket EVA agentic AI platform for core systems. Many banks, insurers and government agencies still run critical work on mainframes, and fewer engineers know how to maintain them. The deal adds to a run of AI acquisitions by Boston-area software companies trying to automate that work.

Related Beal Buys the Motor Mart Garage for About $89 Million

About $89 million | Related Beal and Freeport Equity, from CIM Group | Oct. 14, 2026. Related Beal, the Boston arm of New York developer Related Cos., announced that it and Fort Lauderdale-based Freeport Equity have acquired the Motor Mart Garage at 201 Stuart St. The seller was CIM Group, and CBRE marketed the property. Related Beal did not disclose the price. The Boston Globe, citing a source with direct knowledge of the deal, reported it at $89 million, about 45% below the $162.5 million CIM paid in 2016. As of Oct. 14 the sale had not yet appeared in Suffolk County deed records, according to the Globe and Bisnow.

Why it matters: The century-old Art Deco garage has 1,037 parking spaces and about 49,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, 46.8% leased according to CBRE’s listing as reported by Bisnow. A 231-unit condominium addition was approved in 2019 but never built. Related Beal says it will keep running the garage and retail while it explores residential and mixed-use development with the city. The steep discount is another data point in a downtown market where property values have reset, much like the upcoming 100 Summer Street auction.

Beacon Biosignals Acquires Snap Diagnostics

Terms not disclosed | Beacon Biosignals and Snap Diagnostics | Oct. 22, 2026. Boston neurotechnology company Beacon Biosignals said it has acquired Snap Diagnostics, a home sleep testing provider that serves patients in all 50 states. Snap is a Medicare-registered Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility that ships tests to patients and bills Medicare and commercial insurers directly. It will remain a Beacon subsidiary with no change to its name or services. Beacon did not disclose a price.

Why it matters: Beacon says the deal more than doubles its patient reach. It also gives Beacon a national channel to offer home sleep tests that use its FDA-cleared Waveband EEG headband, starting in 2027, through primary care doctors, telehealth providers and psychiatrists as well as sleep specialists. Beacon cites about 6,000 board-certified sleep physicians in the U.S. Its AI platform is already used in drug trials by several large drugmakers, including Johnson & Johnson, Bristol Myers Squibb and Takeda.

Year Up United Shrinks Its Boston Office and Signs Two Leases

Terms not disclosed | Year Up United | reported Oct. 23, 2026. Year Up United, a Boston workforce-training nonprofit, has moved into 2 Center Plaza and reduced its Boston headquarters footprint. It has also signed new office leases in Chicago and Providence as part of a planned national expansion, the Boston Business Journal reported. The square footage and lease terms were not available to us.

Why it matters: The move fits a broader pattern of Boston employers taking less office space, even as nonprofits find openings in a downtown market with high vacancy.
