Who advertises with us

Our advertising options are built for Boston small businesses, restaurants and local service providers: the cafe opening on a new block, the family restaurant, the contractor, the tutor, the event organizer. We cover the city every day, so a local sponsor sits next to stories about the neighborhoods and teams readers care about, including our Boston restaurants guide, the Boston small business guide, the Boston sports hub and the new Boston business directory.

Other ways to advertise

Display ads

Standard banner placements in the sidebar and within pages. Ads are always visually separate from articles, and some space may be filled by third-party ad networks whose policies also apply.

Best for: promotions and seasonal offers

Event listing promotion

A featured, dated listing for a Boston-area event, with a link to your own ticket or information page, on our events and sports pages where relevant.

Best for: festivals, tastings, fundraisers, races

Newsletter sponsorship

A labeled sponsor block in The Boston Report newsletter, sent only to readers who confirmed their subscription. Included in the Local Business Partner package once the newsletter is sending; ask for the current schedule.

Best for: reaching readers directly

Custom partnerships

Have another idea, such as a guide, a series or a seasonal campaign? Tell us what you need and we will say plainly whether it fits our standards.

Best for: larger or longer campaigns

Editorial independence and disclosure

  • Advertising never shapes our news. Advertisers and sponsors have no influence on what we report, how we report it or when we correct it.
  • Every paid placement is labeled. Section sponsors carry a “Sponsor” label, paid articles a “Sponsored” label and disclosure line, and paid directory listings a “Featured listing (paid)” label. Links in paid placements are marked as sponsored for search engines.
  • No sponsored politics or government coverage. We do not sell ads, sponsorships or content about elections, candidates, ballot questions, political issues or government decisions.
  • Our own features stay ours. Restaurant and business stories we choose ourselves are not for sale, and a paid feature never guarantees favorable independent coverage.
  • No fake numbers. We do not promise impressions or clicks, and we report only what our analytics can actually measure.

Read how we work in our Editorial Standards & AI Use Policy, our Corrections Policy, the Advertiser Terms and the About page.

Ad standards

We review every creative before it runs. We do not accept political advertising of any kind, misleading or deceptive claims, adult content, gambling, illegal goods or services, hateful content, or anything that violates the policies of the ad networks we work with, including Google’s publisher policies. We may decline or remove an ad at our discretion.

How it works

  1. Send an inquiry. Use the form below or email us with your goals, timing and the package you want.
  2. We confirm fit. We check the request against our standards and tell you plainly if it is a match.
  3. Get a written order. You receive the price, placement, dates and deliverables in writing before anything is billed.
  4. Review and pay. You review sponsored copy for accuracy about your business, then pay through a secure Stripe checkout link or an invoice. Our news coverage is never reviewed by advertisers.
  5. Launch and report back. Your placement goes live with the right labels on the agreed date, and we share what we can reliably measure.

Advertising FAQ

How much does advertising cost?
Introductory prices are listed above: a free directory listing, an Enhanced Business Listing at $99 a month, a Local Section Sponsor at $249 a month, a Sponsored Business Feature at $250 per article and the Local Business Partner bundle at $499 a month. The final price and deliverables are confirmed in a written order.
Can I see audience numbers?
We do not print audience numbers on this page. Ask and we will share current figures from our analytics, so you see real, dated numbers rather than estimates.
Will sponsored content be labeled?
Yes. Every sponsored placement is labeled, sponsored articles include a disclosure line, and paid directory listings say “Featured listing (paid).”
Can an advertiser review or change a news story?
No. Advertisers have no influence over news coverage, headlines, corrections or which stories we publish. Sponsors can approve only the sponsored material about their own business.
Do you accept political ads or sponsored politics coverage?
No. We do not accept ads, sponsorships or sponsored content about elections, candidates, ballot questions, political issues or government decisions.
How do payments and cancellations work?
Monthly packages are billed in advance through Stripe and renew monthly until you cancel; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid month. A Sponsored Business Feature is paid before publication and refunded in full if we decline to publish it. Details are in the Advertiser Terms.
Is the directory listing really free?
Yes. A basic listing (name, category, neighborhood, website and public contact details) costs nothing. We verify every listing against the business’s own public information.
How do I get started?
Use the inquiry form above or email ads@thebostonreport.com with your business, the package you are interested in and your timing. We usually reply within two business days.
