Clayface Box Office: DC Horror Film Opens No. 1 With $24 Million

Clayface box office: the R-rated DC horror film opened No. 1 with about $24 million, while A24's Elizabeth Holmes documentary grew 25% in its second weekend.

The Clayface box office opening came in at about $24 million in North America this weekend, Oct. 23-25, 2026, giving Warner Bros. and DC Studios the No. 1 movie in the country, according to Sunday studio estimates reported by Deadline. Right behind it, A24’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything did something rare: it earned more in its second weekend than in its first.

Deadline put the R-rated horror film’s opening at $24 million to $24.5 million from 3,458 theaters, with a global start of $43 million. That is a strong result for a movie that, per Deadline, cost a net $44 million to produce before marketing. The Numbers lists the three-day total at $24 million, a $6,940 per-theater average.

Clayface Opening Weekend by the Numbers

The film, directed by James Watkins from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan, follows Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries), a rising actor who agrees to an experimental medical procedure after his face is disfigured. Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan co-star. It was shot in the United Kingdom.

Thursday previews brought in about $3.5 million. Friday, including those previews, reached roughly $10.4 million to $10.6 million, followed by about $7.8 million on Saturday and an estimated $5.6 million on Sunday, Deadline reported. Audiences gave it an A- CinemaScore, the same grade as James Gunn’s Superman. DC’s Supergirl earned a B- and The Flash a B. Gunn, who co-runs DC Studios, wrote on Threads that Clayface joined Obsession, Weapons and Get Out among horror films graded A-, Deadline reported.

Moviegoers aged 18 to 34 made up 73% of the opening crowd, according to the exit data Deadline cited. Premium large-format screens delivered close to half of the weekend’s gross even though the film had no IMAX screens, which were still booked for Street Fighter. AMC Burbank was the top-grossing location at about $51,000.

Budget context helps explain why the number matters. Variety noted that Superman cost close to $230 million and grossed about $618.7 million worldwide in 2025, while Supergirl earned roughly $126 million worldwide against a $170 million budget earlier this year. Deadline described Clayface as DC’s entry into lower-budget genre films, and it is also the second straight No. 1 opener for the newly combined Paramount-Warner Bros. after Street Fighter topped the chart last weekend.

‘You Can See Everything’ Grows 25% in Week Two

Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s three-hour documentary about the Theranos founder earned an estimated $19.5 million in its second weekend, up 25% from its $15.6 million debut. Its 10-day domestic total is about $45.1 million. A24 expanded the film from 855 theaters to 2,655 on Friday after a limited first week built on sellouts and social media memes. The documentary was the No. 1 film in the country on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of last week, according to Deadline.

Variety reported that A24 plans to submit the film in nearly every Academy Awards category, including best picture and director, on top of documentary feature. We covered its opening, when it finished just behind Street Fighter in last weekend’s box office race.

Wildwood, Street Fighter and Wicker Round Out the Top 5

  • Wildwood (Fathom/Laika): about $11 million to $11.6 million from 2,942 theaters. The stop-motion feature, directed by Travis Knight with a voice cast that includes Carey Mulligan and Jacob Tremblay, carries a reported $100 million price tag and earned an A CinemaScore.
  • Street Fighter (Paramount/Legendary): about $8.6 million, down 72%, for a 10-day total near $46.9 million.
  • Wicker (Black Bear): about $5.75 million from 1,471 theaters. The romantic fable stars Olivia Colman as a fisherwoman who commissions a husband made by a basketmaker, played by Peter Dinklage, with Alexander Skarsgård as the wicker husband.

Further down, the BTS concert film Arirang earned about $4.5 million over two days, and Resident Evil has now grossed about $153.7 million domestically after six weeks. Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun, starring Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams, opened to just $725,000 at 880 locations.

What It Means for Halloween Weekend

Deadline estimated the overall weekend at about $101 million across all films, up 33% from the same weekend a year ago. Next weekend may be much softer: Deadline warned that the Oct. 30-Nov. 1 frame could be weak because Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. Deadline also reported that some in the industry see a possible domestic finish around $80 million for the Holmes documentary.
