Bruins vs Flyers: Oct. 10 Preview After 6-1 Win Over Utah

Bruins vs. Flyers is the Saturday matinee at TD Garden on Oct. 10, 2026, with a 1 p.m. ET puck drop listed on Boston’s schedule. The Bruins (3-2-0) come in off a 6-1 win over the Utah Mammoth on Thursday, a game in which David Pastrnak scored his first two goals of the season and the power play finally came alive.

Bruins vs. Flyers: Game Preview

According to NESN’s published schedule, Saturday is Boston’s fourth home game of the young season and comes just before the start of a stretch that takes the team on a California swing, with games at San Jose on Oct. 13, Anaheim on Oct. 16 and Los Angeles on Oct. 17. NHL.com’s preview lists Philadelphia’s group as including Sanheim, Michkov, Dvorak and Konecny.

Bruins Recap: 6-1 Win Over Utah

The Bruins led 3-0 after one period and 6-0 after two against the Mammoth, per the NHL game summary. Pastrnak finished with two goals and two assists. Morgan Geekie added a goal and two assists, all on the power play, and Boston scored three power-play goals, ending a power-play drought, according to NHL.com’s recap. Jeremy Swayman stopped 36 of 37 shots.

Matthew Poitras scored his first goal of the season after taking a puck to the face in the first period and needing five stitches during the intermission. Defenseman Frederic Brunet recorded his first NHL point in his third career game, an assist on Pastrnak’s opening goal. The recap also noted that Pastrnak tied Brad Marchand for fourth on the franchise’s all-time goals list with 422 and posted his 19th career four-point game.

JJ Peterka, acquired from Utah in a June 26 trade, played his first game against his former team and had no shots on goal in 12:28 of ice time.

Charlie McAvoy Suspension: When He Returns

Defenseman Charlie McAvoy remains suspended for Saturday’s game and is due back on Oct. 13 against San Jose, after serving a six-game suspension, the Boston Globe reported. With him out, Boston’s likely pairs are Hampus Lindholm with Will Borgen, Nikita Zadorov with Connor Clifton, and Brunet with Mason Lohrei. The Globe and NESN both framed the next question as which defenseman sits when McAvoy comes back, a decision for coach Marco Sturm.

Bruins Season So Far

Boston opened the 2026-27 season on Sept. 29 against the Rangers, and we covered that night in our Bruins-Rangers opener report. Pastrnak is in his first season as captain, which we examined in David Pastrnak, Bruins captain, and the opening-night roster questions around Poitras and Lohrei are in our roster injury report. The Bruins roster includes 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies, according to the team’s official announcement.

The early schedule is front-loaded with home dates and then turns toward the road. After Saturday, Boston visits San Jose on Oct. 13, Anaheim on Oct. 16 and Los Angeles on Oct. 17, then Dallas on Oct. 20, per NESN’s schedule. It returns home Oct. 22 against Nashville and Oct. 24 against San Jose. For a team still sorting out its defense pairs and its young forwards, a week of late starts on the West Coast is a real test of depth.

The roster itself reflects a mix of veterans and newcomers. The team’s official announcement lists Pastrnak, Geekie, Elias Lindholm, Pavel Zacha, Casey Mittelstadt and Peterka among the forwards, with Hampus Lindholm, Zadorov and McAvoy on defense and Swayman and Michael DiPietro in goal. Poitras began the season on injured non-roster status before returning to the lineup, which makes his stitched-up goal against Utah a notable moment for a player trying to earn a regular role.

What to watch Saturday: whether the power play keeps clicking, how the young “Kid Line” of James Hagens, Fraser Minten and Marat Khusnutdinov handles another matchup, and how Swayman looks while McAvoy finishes his suspension.
