Cambridge runs on coffee. Between two major universities, a dense biotech district in Kendall Square and a large population of remote workers, the city supports a wide range of cafes, from long-running neighborhood coffee houses in Central and Inman squares to newer roasters and bakery-cafes near Harvard Square.

This guide lists 14 coffee shops, most of them independent or locally based. For each, we include the address, phone number, hours shown on its Google business profile on Oct. 22, 2026, and its Google rating. Where a cafe is also in The Boston Report’s Cambridge directory, we link to that listing.

How we chose these places

This list starts with businesses in The Boston Report’s Cambridge directory, then adds places from Google Maps business profiles checked on Oct. 22, 2026. For Cambridge coffee, we searched Google Maps for coffee shops in Cambridge, kept independent and local multi-location cafes, and left out national chains and convenience stores. We did not accept payment for placement, and we did not include places that Google marked as permanently or temporarily closed. Ratings and review counts are a snapshot from that date and will change.

Restaurant hours change often, especially around holidays and in winter. The hours above come from each business’s Google profile, not from the restaurant directly, so call ahead or check the restaurant’s own website before you go. If you run one of these businesses and see an error, email us and we will correct it.

Tips before you go

Laptop policies vary. Some busy cafes limit laptop use at peak times or have few outlets, so ask before settling in for a long work session.

Many cafes close in mid-afternoon, especially on weekends. Check the hours above before planning an evening visit.

Cambridge’s street-cleaning and snow-emergency rules apply to metered and resident parking; see our Cambridge street cleaning and snow guide. The Red Line stops at Harvard, Central and Kendall/MIT, which is the easiest way to reach most of these cafes.
