BERLIN — Germany has exhausted its capacity to supply Ukraine with more Patriot air defense systems for now, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in an interview with Berliner Morgenpost, the Kyiv Independent reported on Nov. 7, citing Focus.

What Pistorius said

Further transfers would create “gaps” in Germany’s own defense that it cannot accept, he said, according to the report. “We cannot do more right now.” He urged other countries to do more and said the issue would come up at the next Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in mid-November.

Pistorius also estimated Russian casualties at 30,000 to 40,000 troops a month. That is his estimate and has not been independently verified.

The backdrop

Ukraine faces continued Russian strikes on its energy system and a shortage of interceptors ahead of winter, the Kyiv Independent reported. President Volodymyr Zelensky met Pistorius in Berlin on Nov. 4 to discuss speeding up deliveries of German-made PAC-2 missiles.
