Inside the book
The book opens with “Armor for Man and Horse,” a South German piece from about 1520, for the letter A and ends with a graphic textile of zebras by Victor Vasarely, the museum’s associate vice president of publishing, Katie Reilly, told Block Club. It also includes Bisa Butler’s “Safety Patrol,” Jasper Johns’ “Alphabet,” prints by Rufino Tamayo and Hashiguchi Goyo, a robot by Nam June Paik, a print by the late Chicago artist Tony Fitzpatrick and the museum’s lion statues by Edward Kemeys.
Why an alphabet book
Alphabet books are among the Art Institute’s “perennial best sellers,” Reilly said. The book was written by Maura Flood and Robin Schnur of the museum’s Ryan Learning Center.
The launch
The museum planned a family day launch event on Saturday at the Ryan Learning Center, 159 E. Monroe St., with live readings and art-making, Block Club reported.
