Quick picks

  • One slice in the North End: Pizzeria Regina for the brick-oven classic, or Ernesto’s, where Eater Boston notes a single slice is a quarter of a pie.
  • Award winner: Posto, Boston Magazine’s Best Pizza for 2026, with locations in the South End and at Assembly Row.
  • East Boston institution: Santarpio’s, family-owned since 1903 and serving pizza since 1933, according to Eater Boston.
  • Bar pizza: Bardo’s in South Boston brings the thin, crisp-edged South Shore style into the city.
  • Worth the trip: The Square Deli in Everett, Boston Magazine’s Best Pizza for 2025.

Classic and old-school pies still make up the biggest group on our list: Regina, Ernesto’s, Santarpio’s and Roslindale’s Pleasant Cafe, which Eater Boston calls a neighborhood staple for more than 80 years. Neapolitan pizza, baked fast in a very hot oven so the rim chars and the center stays soft, is the next biggest, with Posto, Ciao! Somerville and Da LaPosta. Long-fermented and sourdough doughs drive Picco, Area Four and The Square Deli. Eater Boston says Area Four ferments its dough for more than 30 hours.

What is canotto pizza?

Canotto, Italian for “dinghy,” is a Neapolitan relative with a tall, puffy, airy rim. Si Cara in Central Square is the Boston-area example on this list.

What is South Shore bar pizza?

A thin pie baked in a small pan, with cheese spread to the edge so it crisps. It comes from bars south of Boston.

How we chose

We included only pizzerias named on a published 2024 to 2026 list: Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston pizza award, Eater Boston’s pizza map, or the Boston Globe Magazine’s June 2026 Best of the Best pizza list. We did not rank them, accept payment or include places we couldn’t match to a current restaurant website. Addresses come from the restaurants’ sites, checked in late October 2026.
