Lead Stories reported that a viral image of a Donald Trump Truth Social post offering Canada “associate membership” in the United States did not match anything on his account, and that a claim of a foreign Wi-Fi device inside a Michigan vote tabulator lacked supporting evidence. The same news cycle kept Iranian claims of three vessel fires in the Strait of Hormuz without independent ship names or flag-state confirmation.

Key figures: 0 matching truth social posts lead stories found for the canada-membership claim · 3 hormuz vessels irgc said caught fire, still unnamed in opened sources · 4 midterm-related viral claims lead stories rated false or unsupported in this package

Fake Canada membership post

Lead Stories reviewed an X post that showed what looked like a Trump Truth Social screenshot offering Mark Carney and Canadians an “associate membership” in the United States. The fact-check found a watermark tied to the claiming account, no matching post when scrolling Trump’s account from the evening of Nov. 2 through Nov. 3, and no established news organization reporting that such a post existed. Verdict: false.

Michigan Wi-Fi tabulator claim

Lead Stories examined a claim by Patrick Colbeck of the Election Crime Bureau that a poll worker detected a Wi-Fi signal connected to a foreign device inside a Michigan tabulator on Election Day. Colbeck declined to provide evidence in an interview with Lead Stories, the outlet said. Michigan Department of State Chief Communications Officer Angela Benander called the claim “complete nonsense” and said the agency had not received inquiries about it. Verdict: unsupported / no evidence provided.

Other midterm fakes

Lead Stories also rated false a claim that Ken Paxton released a statement saying he “cannot accept” a Senate defeat as free or fair; Paxton had conceded, the fact-check said. Lead Stories reported that Niagara Parks denied a viral image showing Niagara Falls lit blue as a midterm celebration; the park said the teal lighting was for Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.

Unverified battlefield and maritime claims

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said two oil tankers and a tugboat caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz after vessels used an unauthorized route, Anadolu Agency reported, carrying an IRNA account. Opened sources for this window did not name the ships or show matching owner, insurer or UK Maritime Trade Operations confirmation of those three fires. The IRGC/IRNA account is treated as unverified Unverified claim, IRNA (Iranian state media). Separately, UK Maritime Trade Operations did confirm a tanker struck by two unidentified projectiles about 50 nautical miles north of Qatar — a verified warning covered in today’s Hormuz and Qatar maritime report, distinct from the Iranian fire claims.

Russian-installed Luhansk governor Leonid Pasechnik claimed seven people were killed and 14 hurt in attacks on vehicles, Anadolu reported. Kyiv had not confirmed an attacker in the opened sources; the claim is attributed to a Russian-installed official Unverified claim, Russian-installed Luhansk administration (Russian occupation authority). Broader overnight fighting tallies are in today’s Ukraine drones and Komyshuvakha update.

CISA’s news page returned an access error on one attempt; no new federal cyber attribution comparable to this week’s earlier Binance reporting appeared in opened sources for the window. Yesterday’s Binance hack fact-check package covers that theft narrative.

By the numbers

This information-war cut separates three Hormuz vessel-fire claims that still lack ship identification from a UK-verified Qatar projectile incident reported elsewhere today, and groups four Lead Stories midterm ratings that found false or unsupported viral posts. The Luhansk vehicle-attack claim of seven dead remains a one-source occupation-authority figure.

Watch for any owner or flag-state confirmation of the Hormuz fires, further Lead Stories or election-official rebuttals of midterm rumors, and whether federal cyber agencies publish a new attribution this week.
