Revolution End Union Unbeaten Run 2-1, Climb to Second Before Messi Visit

The Revolution beat Philadelphia 2-1 to end the Union's 15-game unbeaten run and move into second in the East ahead of Inter Miami's Nov. 1 visit.

The New England Revolution moved into second place in MLS’s Eastern Conference with a 2-1 win at the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night, Oct. 24, 2026. The win sets up a final regular-season home match against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 1, with home-field advantage in the playoffs at stake.

The Revolution (17-10-4, 55 points) won their third straight match and ended Philadelphia’s 15-game unbeaten run, the club said in its match report. Inter Miami lost 2-0 to the New York Red Bulls the same night and is also on 55 points. New England holds the tiebreaker edge, so it controls its own path to second place, The Boston Globe reported.

Revolution vs. Union: Turgeman and Gil score

Dor Turgeman opened the scoring three minutes into first-half stoppage time on his 23rd birthday. After a quick free kick, Carles Gil found Peyton Miller, who headed the ball toward the back post, where Turgeman tucked it in for his 10th goal of the season. Turgeman is the club’s first forward to reach double figures since 2021, according to the Globe.

Gil added a penalty kick in the 91st minute after Miller sent him in on a counterattack and Union defender Neil Pierre fouled him. The play was first whistled offside, but a video review showed Gil was onside. The Globe reported it was Gil’s team-record 26th penalty kick; the club said he is 24-for-27 from the spot in MLS play. Gil also had a secondary assist on Turgeman’s goal, the 19th goal-and-assist match of his MLS career, according to the club.

Pierre scored for Philadelphia with a header off a Kai Wagner cross in the 12th of more than 15 added minutes. The Globe reported it was the latest goal in the Revolution’s 31-year history and ended a New England shutout streak of 203 minutes. Goalkeeper Matt Turner made six saves in his 150th Revolution appearance and earned his 17th win of the season, a club single-season record, according to the club.

What Mitrović and Kohler said

“I actually love these kind of challenges, because they really help us to grow,” head coach Marko Mitrović said, according to the Globe. “Philly is also good on the ball, but when it comes to physicality, they are a very tough team. For us to grow, we need this type of opponent.”

Center back Ethan Kohler said: “We knew this was going to be a test and it was. I think we’ve shown throughout this season that we’re a team that has no problem with being tested,” according to the Globe’s game story.

By the numbers

  • 17 wins: New England’s total this season, with seven on the road. That road-win total is the second-most in club history, according to the club.

Revolution schedule: Red Bulls, Inter Miami, Orlando

The Revolution host the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday night, Oct. 28, then Inter Miami on Sunday, Nov. 1, in their final regular-season home match. The club expects a crowd of more than 50,000 for Miami’s visit, according to the Globe. New England closes the regular season Nov. 7 at Orlando City. Miami hosts Cincinnati on Wednesday and Charlotte on Nov. 7.

The second seed brings home-field advantage until the conference final, the Globe reported. Nashville SC (21-3-7, 70 points) leads the East and has beaten New England twice this season, 4-1 and 3-0.

New England clinched its playoff berth on Oct. 14 with a 3-2 win at FC Cincinnati, its first postseason trip since 2023, according to the club’s recap. Turgeman scored twice in that match. The Globe noted the turnaround from last season, when the team was eliminated from postseason contention with four games remaining.
