Veterans Day 2026 in Boston: Parade Route, Free Events and Closures

Veterans Day 2026 in Boston: the Nov. 7 parade route from Copley to City Hall, a USS Constitution veterans tour, free park entry and Nov. 11 closures.

Veterans Day 2026 in Boston stretches across two dates this year. The City of Boston’s free Veterans Day parade marches from Copley Square to City Hall Plaza on Saturday, November 7, and the holiday itself falls on Wednesday, November 11, when state and city offices close, national parks waive entrance fees and USS Constitution offers veterans an early tour. Here is a guide to honoring those who served, with the street closures and holiday rules to know.

Boston Veterans Day parade: Saturday, Nov. 7

The city’s Veterans Services office is hosting the Boston Veterans Parade, which the city calls an “all-star salute to service,” from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 7. It is free to watch. According to the city’s event listing, the parade is designed “to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans and their families, as well as a thank you to all who continue to serve.” Veteran, military and civic organizations and musical groups can still register to march through the city’s event page, and questions go to the Veterans Services office at veterans@boston.gov.

Parade route

The city’s traffic advisory says the parade begins at noon at Copley Square, by the Boston Public Library, and proceeds along Boylston Street, turns left onto Tremont Street (running counter to traffic), continues onto Cambridge Street and ends at City Hall Plaza. Good viewing spots include Boylston Street along the Public Garden and Boston Common, and Tremont Street near Park Street station.

Parking restrictions on Nov. 7

  • Beacon Street, south side (Boston Common side), from Charles Street to Walnut Street
  • Boylston Street, both sides, from Hereford Street to Tremont Street
  • Tremont Street, both sides, from Boylston Street to Cambridge Street
  • Cambridge Street, both sides, from Tremont Street to New Chardon Street

The city encourages people attending events to walk, bike or take the MBTA rather than drive.

USS Constitution veterans tour

The USS Constitution Museum is partnering with the crew of USS Constitution, the active-duty Navy ship in the Charlestown Navy Yard, to offer veterans a special tour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., before the ship opens to the public. An active-duty sailor leads the tour. Each guest, including family and friends, must register in advance; the tour is limited to 25 people. Adults 18 and over need a federal or state photo ID, and the museum notes that going below decks requires climbing steep, ladder-like steps.

54th Massachusetts walking tour

Hub Town Tours is running a Veterans Day Special Anniversary Tour from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., starting at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Boston Common, according to the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism. The roughly 2.5-hour walk follows the Black Heritage Trail on Beacon Hill and focuses on the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, the first Black regiment raised in the North, led by Col. Robert Gould Shaw, with stops including the African Meeting House and the Shaw/54th Massachusetts Memorial.

Free national park entry

November 11 is one of the National Park Service’s 2026 fee-free days. Sites that normally charge an entrance fee are free that day for U.S. citizens and residents, though other fees such as reservations or camping still apply. In Boston itself, the federally and city-owned sites of Boston National Historical Park, including Faneuil Hall, the Bunker Hill Monument and USS Constitution, are free year-round, the park says. Veterans and Gold Star family members can also get the free Military Lifetime Pass, according to the NPS.

What’s closed on Veterans Day in Massachusetts

Veterans Day is a legal holiday in Massachusetts, so state, county and municipal offices close on Wednesday, November 11, according to Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin’s office. State commerce restrictions apply before 1 p.m., and liquor stores must stay closed during that time. The state Department of Labor Standards handles local permits that allow other businesses to open. Federal offices are also closed, since Veterans Day is a federal holiday.
