What happened in Norwood

The collision happened at about 8:44 a.m. on the northbound tracks near Norwood Depot, Turn to 10 reported, citing Norwood police and fire officials. Norwood police and firefighters responded around 8:47 a.m. to the tracks behind 150 Hill St., NBC10 Boston reported. In a 10:09 a.m. Facebook post, police described it as an equipment accident involving injured personnel.

Keolis, the company that operates the MBTA Commuter Rail, said in a statement that the vehicles were doing track work and “made contact at low speed” on the railroad right of way, according to NBC10 Boston. Canton firefighters said they sent an ambulance to help.

How badly the workers were hurt

All six workers were taken to local hospitals. Officials do not believe any of the injuries are life-threatening, Turn to 10 reported, and Keolis said the crew members had minor injuries. Neither outlet named the workers or the hospitals.

Delays on the Franklin/Foxboro Line

MBTA alerts said Train 7116, the 8:45 a.m. departure from Foxboro, was stopped before Norwood Central and running 20 to 30 minutes late, NBC10 Boston reported. Keolis then replaced Franklin/Foxboro Line trains with buses between Readville and Walpole. Riders should check the MBTA’s commuter rail alerts for the latest service.

A resident, Mark French, told NBC10 Boston that he had heard the workers were setting railroad ties. Of the track work in the area, he said, “It’s been consistently going on.”
