A shorthanded New England Revolution side fell 3-0 at Real Salt Lake on Saturday night at America First Field in Sandy, Utah, ending a three-game winning streak as RSL snapped a franchise-record 13-match MLS winless run before 20,918 fans.
Homegrown Aiden Hezarkhani scored in the third minute, and Spanish rookie Sergi Solans added goals in the 62nd and 80th minutes. New England (14-9-4, 46 points) controlled 62% of possession and outshot Salt Lake 14-9 but managed only four shots on target against goalkeeper Rafael Cabral.
Revolution Real Salt Lake: early deficit, few clear chances
Hezarkhani finished a loose ball atop the six-yard box after a Dominik Marczuk cross was only half-cleared, curling a left-footed shot in off the underside of the bar. The goal ended a 287-minute RSL scoreless drought and put Marko Mitrović’s visitors behind before they could settle. Matt Turner denied Solans on a first-half breakaway and again early in the second half, but the third look went in when Noel Caliskan slipped Solans through and the rookie held off Josh Wynder before rolling a finish past Turner.
Solans completed the brace in the 80th minute, meeting a Morgan Guilavogui cross at the penalty spot for a first-time finish into the side netting. RSL improved to 9-13-5 and recorded its first MLS shutout since May 13.
Depleted lineup and a long Utah drought
New England was missing injured creators Jack Harrison and Alhassan Yusuf, plus U.S. youth national teamer Judah Siqueira, forcing a makeshift XI. Wynder made his first MLS start at center back; Wilson Harris and Luca Langoni returned to the front line with Dániel Gazdag; Ethan Kohler shifted into midfield. The Revolution signed Revolution II products Makai Wells and Javaun Mussenden to short-term agreements earlier Saturday, and Mussenden entered in the 68th minute for Wynder.
The result extended New England’s winless run in Utah to 10 matches (0-8-2 since 2007). RSL is now 8-0-2 all-time against the Revs at America First Field.
Standings picture and next steps
Despite the loss, New England remains near the top of the Eastern Conference on 46 points and sits off next weekend before hosting Seattle on Oct. 10. Coach Mitrović will weigh how quickly Harrison and Yusuf return and whether the short-term academy call-ups stay in the matchday picture.
