Maine: Jackson ends Collins’s tenure

Jackson’s win flipped one of the Republicans’ most closely watched seats and helped Democrats take the Senate. Maine’s open governor’s race between Democrat Hannah Pingree and Republican Bobby Charles had not been called as of early Wednesday.

New Hampshire: a split result

Pappas kept the seat in Democratic hands; CBS News also projected his win, and Sununu conceded, the Boston Globe reported. Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte won reelection over Democrat Cinde Warmington, NBC News projected.

Massachusetts: incumbents win, two ballot questions decided

Gov. Maura Healey won a second term over Republican Mike Minogue, and Sen. Ed Markey won a third term over Republican John Deaton, CBS Boston reported; the AP projected both races, the Boston Globe reported.

  • Question 1 (expand the public records law): approved, the AP projected, GBH reported.
  • Question 8 (repeal recreational marijuana sales): rejected, the AP projected, so legal cannabis stays.

Our full Massachusetts results story covers the other questions, and the Massachusetts election tracker has race-by-race results.

Helena Foulkes was projected to win Rhode Island’s governor’s race, ABC News reported. In Connecticut, Gov. Ned Lamont was among the projected winners, ABC7 New York reported.
