Boston University scored twice in each period and beat No. 3 Michigan State 6-2 on Friday night, Nov. 6, 2026, at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich. Sophomore Carter Amico scored a career-high two goals and junior goaltender Mikhail Yegorov made 33 saves as the No. 13 Terriers handed the Spartans their second loss of the season.

BU improved to 7-2-0 and has won four straight. Michigan State fell to 5-2-0. The teams finish the non-conference series Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET, according to both schools’ athletic departments.

How BU hockey built a 4-0 lead

Sophomore Tynan Lawrence opened the scoring on a power play 5:49 into the game, beating Spartans goalie Joshua Ravensbergen from the left circle while Jack Murtagh screened in front, BU Athletics reported. The power play came after Michigan State was called for delay of game for knocking the net off its moorings. Junior Kamil Bednarik made it 2-0 at 18:04 of the first period off a feed from Nick Roukounakis.

Amico’s shot from the right point went through traffic at 11:37 of the second for a 3-0 lead. Freshman Caleb Malhotra scored from the slot during a delayed penalty at 14:50, which ended Ravensbergen’s night after 16 saves on 20 shots. Quentin Sigurdson finished in goal for the Spartans.

Michigan State answered early in the third. Ryker Lee scored on the power play at 4:21 and Cayden Lindstrom one-timed a shot from the left dot at 6:21 to cut the lead to 4-2. BU held from there. Sophomore Charlie Trethewey scored on a power play at 16:32 after Michigan State was called for too many men, and Amico added an empty-net goal at 19:01.

By the numbers: outshot but more efficient

The box score cuts against the final score. Michigan State outshot BU 35-24 and won 38 of 64 faceoffs, and the Spartans limited the Terriers to four shots in the third period. But BU scored on 25% of its shots (6 of 24, including the empty-netter), while Yegorov held Michigan State to a 5.7% shooting rate (2 of 35), by The Boston Report’s calculation from the official box score. BU went 2 for 3 on the power play; Michigan State went 1 for 1.

College Hockey News’ expected-goals model put Michigan State ahead 2.9 to 2.2, another sign that goaltending decided the night. Michigan State coach Adam Nightingale did not argue the result. “I thought they deserved the outcome of the game today,” he said in the Spartans’ recap. “We say we want to play good teams, and we obviously got exposed in some areas.”

Final Boston University 6, Michigan State 2
Shots MSU 35, BU 24
Power play BU 2-for-3; MSU 1-for-1
Faceoffs MSU 38, BU 26
Goalies Yegorov 33 saves; Ravensbergen 16, Sigurdson 2
Attendance 6,555

Streaks keep building

Lawrence extended his goal and point streak to four games, with five goals and two assists in that stretch, according to BU’s game notes. Malhotra (2 goals, 4 assists) and freshman defenseman Haoxi (Simon) Wang (4 assists) also stretched point streaks to four games. Freshman Xavier Villeneuve had two assists Friday and has seven points in his last four games.

The win followed BU’s sweep of No. 19 Maine last weekend and matched what our BU-Michigan State preview framed as the Terriers’ toughest road test of the fall. A win over a top-three opponent on the road is the kind of result that carries weight in the national rankings and the PairWise formula used for NCAA tournament selection.

What’s next

The series concludes Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET in East Lansing. Michigan State has only one other loss this season and will be looking to split the weekend. BU then returns to Hockey East play, where it is 4-2-0.

This is a game recap based on official box scores and both teams’ recaps.
