The win came on a busy opening stretch for college basketball in Boston: Boston University beat Northeastern 93-85 on Monday, and Harvard beat MIT 73-45 the same night.

How Boston College pulled away from Wagner

The game was tight early. Boston College led 21-14 midway through the first half before an 11-0 run, with Zeigler and Brandon Benjamin helping push the margin to 32-14, according to the AP recap. The Eagles took a 38-23 lead into halftime.

Wagner cut the deficit to 50-38 with 10:05 remaining, but Boston College answered and pulled away again. The Eagles outscored Wagner 38-27 in the second half, matching their first-half total of 38 points.

From 3-point range, Boston College made 7 of 17 (41%) and Wagner made 3 of 15 (20%), worth a 12-point edge from beyond the arc alone. The Eagles also had 34 points in the paint to Wagner’s 24, 14 fast-break points to Wagner’s 5, and 12 assists to Wagner’s 5. Wagner did win the offensive glass 13-7, but Boston College still won the total rebounding count 36-34, and the Eagles had 11 turnovers to Wagner’s 13 (TBR calculations from the ESPN box score).
