BOSTON — Boston University takes a 6-2-0 record and a three-game winning streak to East Lansing this weekend for a two-game series against No. 3 Michigan State, the toughest test yet for the No. 13 Terriers. The games are Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. ET and Saturday, Nov. 7, at 4:30 p.m. ET at Munn Ice Arena, according to ESPN’s schedule.

BU is coming off a home sweep of No. 19 Maine, 7-2 on Oct. 30 and 3-2 in overtime on Oct. 31. Michigan State’s only loss was a 1-0 game at New Hampshire on Oct. 23, and the Spartans won 5-3 at North Dakota on Nov. 1, according to ESPN results. Rankings are as listed by ESPN this week.

BU’s hot streak meets the Spartans’ defense

The Terriers opened with a two-game sweep at Alaska, split at Vermont and split a home-and-home with UConn, losing 5-4 in overtime at UConn on Oct. 22 before winning 6-3 at home two days later. Since that overtime loss, BU has won three straight and scored 16 goals in those three games.

Michigan State has done it at the other end of the ice. The Spartans have allowed nine goals in six games and held five of their six opponents to two goals or fewer. They swept Northern Michigan 6-2 and 5-1 at home, won 5-1 at RIT, split at New Hampshire and won at North Dakota.

By the numbers: BU vs. Michigan State

BU has scored 29 goals in eight games, 3.63 per game, and allowed 16, or 2.00 per game, for a goal differential of +13. Michigan State has scored 23 in six games, 3.83 per game, and allowed nine, 1.50 per game, for a +14 differential in two fewer games (TBR calculations from ESPN game results).

BU’s offense has been streaky. The Terriers scored one or two goals in three of their first five games, then scored six and seven in two of their last three. Three of BU’s six wins have come in overtime, so the Terriers have also been tested late in close games.

The rest of Boston’s college hockey weekend

Boston College, 2-4-1, hosts Vermont at Conte Forum on Friday at 7 p.m. The Eagles split an overtime series with Northeastern last weekend, winning 3-2 on Oct. 30 and losing 4-3 on Oct. 31; see our Hockey East roundup of that weekend. Northeastern, 3-2-0, plays at Holy Cross on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Harvard, 1-1-0, hosts Brown on Friday and Yale on Saturday at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. No. 15 Merrimack, 5-1-2, hosts Holy Cross on Friday, and No. 9 Providence visits No. 20 UConn on Saturday. UMass Lowell plays a home-and-home with New Hampshire, at the Tsongas Center on Friday and at the Whittemore Center on Saturday, and UMass hosts Maine both nights.

The pro team in town is busy too: the Bruins lead the Atlantic Division and visit Pittsburgh on Thursday.
