The WTA Finals move to Indian Wells, California, this year, and the first day delivers an all-American match. Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula meet Sunday, Nov. 8, 2026, in Group 1, after world No. 1 and defending champion Elena Rybakina opens against Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova at noon local time (3 p.m. ET), according to the tournament’s order of play.
The season-ending event brings the top eight singles players and top eight doubles teams to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden from Nov. 8 through the finals on Nov. 15. “It’s definitely different every year,” Rybakina said at Tuesday’s draw ceremony. “It’s a lot of tough players, all great champions.”
WTA Finals 2026 groups and schedule
Group 1 is Rybakina, Gauff, Pegula and Noskova, and plays round-robin matches Nov. 8, 10 and 12. By the numbers: a tight field
Prize money totals $10 million, with $8 million for singles and $2 million for doubles. An undefeated singles champion would earn $3.37 million and 1,500 ranking points, the WTA said. That is well below the $5.5 million Rybakina collected for going unbeaten in Riyadh last year, which the WTA called the largest payout in women’s sports history; this year’s maximum is about 39% lower, by The Boston Report’s calculation.
The records show how little separates the field. Using the 2026 win-loss records the WTA published, Rybakina (54-14) has the best win rate at 79.4%, and six of the seven qualifiers with 2026 records listed are between 75% and 80%. Noskova, a first-time qualifier, is at 70%.

Rybakina has won four titles this season, including the Australian Open and US Open, and enters on an 11-match winning streak. She is trying to become the first player to defend the title since Serena Williams in 2013-14, according to the BNP Paribas Open. Sabalenka, a two-time finalist, won the Indian Wells title in March, beating Rybakina in the final.
The American angle
Gauff won the WTA Finals in 2024 and enters 47-15 this year with a Cincinnati title. Pegula, the 2023 runner-up, is 50-14 with titles in Dubai and Charleston. Their opener matters because only two of four advance from what may be the tougher group. In doubles, top seeds Katerina Siniakova and American Taylor Townsend lead Group 2 after Townsend recovered from appendicitis.
The build-up has not been quiet. Reuters reported Thursday that the WTA said it takes “full responsibility” after private comments Pegula made to coach Mark Knowles about Andreeva were picked up by practice-court microphones and broadcast on the WTA’s YouTube livestream; the tour said it had failed to tell players the microphones were active. Tennis Channel analyst Chanda Rubin told Reuters the event tests “consistency, resilience and composure” as much as peak form.
Three players are debuting: Andreeva, the Roland Garros champion; Muchova; and Noskova. Marta Kostyuk and Diana Shnaider are the singles alternates.
The men’s season also reaches its finale this month. Friday’s Paris Masters quarterfinals settled the last places for the ATP Finals in Turin, as covered in our Paris Masters report, and Alcaraz arrived there after his Vienna title.
This is a preview. Records and prize figures are as published by the WTA before play began; results will be reported as matches are completed.
