Kendall Square lunch guide: all nine Eastern Edge food hall vendors and hours, Alice & Monarch prices, and more spots near MIT in Cambridge.

Kendall Square lunch options have grown in 2026. A nine-vendor food hall opened next to MIT in February, and a two-level Italian restaurant and dessert lounge followed in May, joining established spots near the Kendall/MIT Red Line stop in Cambridge. This guide covers where to eat lunch in Kendall Square, based on reporting by the Boston Globe and Boston Magazine and on the businesses’ own sites. Hours change, so check before you go.

Eastern Edge Food Hall: nine counters under one roof

Eastern Edge opened on Feb. 13, 2026, at 290 Main St., on the edge of MIT’s campus. The Boston Globe reported that the building is owned by MIT and sits next to its Welcome Center, and that the hall is run by the Gather Group of Auburn, Ala., with 275 seats. Boston Magazine reported that the space covers 11,000 square feet and that MIT community members can pay with TechCASH.

Eastern Edge’s website lists food hall hours of 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Its Bacaro Cafe & Bar opens at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. The hall says it closes on July 4, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. A parking garage under the building is reached from Amherst Street.

The vendors, as described by Boston Magazine and the Globe:

  • Clover: The Cambridge-born vegetarian chain started as a food truck near this spot in 2008. It serves its chickpea fritter sandwich and rosemary fries.
  • Perillas Korean Kitchen: Bibimbap-style rice bowls such as bulgogi beef and spicy pork. It began at Somerville’s Bow Market.
  • Việt Citron: Bánh mì, bánh hỏi rice-noodle bundles and phở from owners Howard and Tran Lee, with crispy pork belly as a signature topping.
  • Lone Star Taco Stand: Tacos on corn tortillas made on site, with fillings including mushroom asada, Baja fried fish and beef barbacoa, plus a bean-and-cheese burrito.
  • Fuji Sushi: Grab-and-go maki, nigiri and sashimi, brought over three times a day from Fuji at Kendall.
  • Everybody Gotta Eat: Southern and Caribbean comfort food from Cambridge native Emmanuel “Manny” Mervil, including fried chicken and fried haddock.
  • Chatty Patty: Grab-and-go beef, chicken, shrimp and vegetable patties, also run by Mervil.
  • Juicy Jay’s: Smashburgers and a crispy red snapper sandwich with scotch bonnet mayo from caterer Jonas Beausejour.
  • Bacaro Cafe & Bar: Espresso and pastries in the morning, with cicchetti, salads and charcuterie from 11 a.m.

Alice & Monarch: a sit-down lunch on Main Street

Alice & Monarch (238 Main St.) opened on May 8, 2026, from the team behind Harvard Square’s Source, the Globe reported. Upstairs, Alice is a 110-seat Italian-Mediterranean restaurant; downstairs, Monarch is an 85-seat dessert and cocktail lounge with its own kitchen. Owner Daniel Roughan named it after his great-grandmother and after chef Alice Waters.

Lunch includes small plates, salads, pastas, pizzas, sandwiches and calzones. In a June 2026 review, the Globe listed prices of $6 and up for starters, $17 and up for sandwiches, $18 and up for pizza and $25 and up for pastas.

Tips for a Kendall Square lunch

  • The weekday lunch rush follows office hours; arriving before noon or after 1:30 p.m. may mean shorter lines.
  • The Kendall/MIT Red Line station is steps from both Eastern Edge and Alice & Monarch.
  • Eastern Edge planned third-party takeout and delivery from a dedicated pickup counter, Boston Magazine reported at opening, which can help groups ordering for an office.
  • For coffee before or after, see our Cambridge coffee shop guide, and find more neighborhood coverage in our Harvard & Cambridge hub.
