Background

Philippine Sea (east of Luzon / east of Taiwan), as of early NovemberTaiwan News (Nov. 4) reported that Taiwan Security Monitor said the Liaoning carrier strike group was in the Philippine Sea while Fujian was in the South China Sea, coinciding with heavier PLA flights around Taiwan. National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu said China had more than 100 navy and coast guard vessels across the Western Pacific as of Nov. 3. A Taiwan NSC map posted Oct. 28 had placed Liaoning east of Luzon; Japan’s Joint Staff previously tracked the group’s October transit and flight operations south of Ishigaki. No newer Joint Staff position release was found as of this update. Status: At sea, training (as reported by Taiwan News / Taiwan Security Monitor).
