Background

Arabian SeaJapan-based carrier sent to the region over the summer to relieve USS Abraham Lincoln. The Wall Street Journal, visiting the ship in the Arabian Sea, reported Oct. 24 that it was taking on a large resupply of munitions, including standoff land attack missiles. A U.S. Navy photo release on DVIDS dated Oct. 14 shows the carrier on routine operations in the Arabian Sea. USNI News placed the carrier, Carrier Air Wing 5 and USS Shoup in the Arabian Sea as of Oct. 26 and again as of Nov. 2. U.S. Central Command said Oct. 31 that the carrier is supporting enforcement of the U.S. blockade of Iran, with 144 commercial vessels redirected as of that date. Per U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (cusnc.navy.mil), destroyers USS John Paul Jones and USS Ross assisted a disabled Indian-flagged dhow in the Arabian Sea on Oct. 31, after which John Paul Jones returned to its station within the George Washington Carrier Strike Group. Status: Deployed.
