Brewers Rout Rays 10-1, Sit One Win From First World Series Title

Brewers beat Rays 10-1 in World Series Game 3 with a record eight two-out runs in the fifth, lead 3-0 and can clinch their first title in Game 4 Tuesday.

The Milwaukee Brewers are one win from the first World Series championship in franchise history after a 10-1 rout of the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 on Monday night, Oct. 26, 2026, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. Milwaukee leads the best-of-seven series 3-0, and Game 4 is set for Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. ET on FOX, FOX Deportes and FOX One, according to MLB’s official schedule.

World Series Game 3: an eight-run fifth inning, all with two outs

The first two games in Milwaukee were decided by one run each, 3-2 on Oct. 23 and 5-4 on Oct. 24. Game 3 was not close. Milwaukee took a 2-0 lead on RBI singles from Christian Yelich and William Contreras, then scored eight times in the fifth inning against Rays starter Freddy Peralta and two relievers, according to the MLB.com game story.

The inning nearly ended with Yelich called out on a force play at second base. The Brewers challenged, the call was overturned and the bases were loaded. Brice Turang followed with a two-run single, Garrett Mitchell drove in a run, Cooper Pratt added a two-run double, and Sal Frelick, David Hamilton and Jackson Chourio each drove in another run. MLB.com reported that no team had ever scored that many runs with two outs in a single World Series inning.

“You’re kind of lengthening your primary [lead] there, in case that happens, where there’s a ball in the hole or some sort of play happens where, you know, you could potentially beat the throw,” Yelich said of the slide, according to MLB.com.

Milwaukee did it without a home run. MLB.com reported it was only the 16th time a team scored double-digit runs in a World Series game without homering, and the first since 2014. Every Brewers starter reached base and eight of the nine drove in a run. Chourio had four hits by the end of the fifth inning.

“I was ready, and I wanted to win today,” Chourio said. “I knew that us winning this game today, it was a big one and it was going to be a big one for us.”

Robert Gasser’s one-hitter over six innings

Brewers starter Robert Gasser allowed one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings with three strikeouts and earned the win. Peralta, a former Brewer, took the loss. The Baseball-Reference box score lists attendance at 40,388 and a game time of three hours. The Rays scored their only run in the ninth inning against Brandon Woodruff.

“It’s definitely deflating,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “How could it not be?”

Brewers manager Pat Murphy pointed to the traveling Milwaukee fans in the stands. “It was unbelievable, and our players felt it, and they’ll tell you about it,” he said.

Game 4: Griffin Jax starts as the Rays face elimination

The Rays will start right-hander Griffin Jax in Game 4, according to MLB.com’s Game 4 preview. The Brewers had not announced a starter as of that report. MLB.com listed Dustin May, Kyle Harrison and Shane Drohan among the options, or an opener from a bullpen that rested in Game 3.

“It’s 3-0 now, but it starts tomorrow,” Rays first baseman Yandy Díaz said through an interpreter. “We’ve got to win that one game that we have tomorrow and go from there.”

If needed, Game 5 would be played in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, Oct. 28, with Games 6 and 7 in Milwaukee on Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31, all at 8 p.m. ET, according to MLB.

The Boston connection: the 2004 Red Sox

History is heavily on Milwaukee’s side. MLB.com reported that teams leading a best-of-seven postseason series 3-0 have won 42 of 43 times. The one exception is the 2004 Boston Red Sox, who rallied from 0-3 to beat the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series and went on to win the World Series. No team has ever pushed a World Series to Game 6 after trailing 3-0, MLB.com reported.

The Brewers are one of five current franchises that have never won a World Series, along with the Mariners, Padres, Rays and Rockies. A sweep would also make Milwaukee the first team since the 1976 Cincinnati Reds to sweep both the League Championship Series and the World Series in succession; the Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Championship Series.
